Chili
What's everyone's chili signature/secret? You know everyone does something unique with this wonderful fall and winter dish! I'm saving mine until I read some of yours... :)
i don't make chili that often but when i do, it's always a little different. sometimes i add a lot of veggies to it. sorry mollie, i don't have a great answer for this one!
1) I use turkey burger because i don't eat red meat, but also because it soaks in the chili flavoring 2) If I have it, I saute my peppers, onions and garlic in chili pepper olive oil to give it extra kick 3) I use refried beans instead of kidney beans 4) I serve mine with rice (kind of Cincinnati style, but its the way I ate it growing up)
Thanks ladies! Those are some good ideas for me to try and use next time around. As for me, my main secret is making teeny tiny meatballs out of sausage and a little ground meat, browning them and adding them to the chili. Its actually my Mom's secret and has always been my favorite part of the chili. I typically omit kidney beans too and use great white northern and sometimes blackbeans. Oh and I start the whole process by frying bacon and then use the bacon grease to brown the other meat and veggies. Crumble bacon bits on top with shredded cheese and voila!

mmm, but this makes me hungry for cornbread!
I have a couple of signature things.

I have a recipe that uses black beans and bacon (everything is better with bacon in my book) but it needs more zing and spice.
I don't have any secret chili ingredients, but I, like Amanda, eat it over rice. I like using V8 in it too.
